Medicare is our country's health insurance program for:
■ People aged 65 or older
■ Under age 65 with certain disabilities
■ Anyone with End-Stage Renal Disease.
Medicare has different parts:
Part A - Hospital Coverage
Part B - Medical Coverage
Part C - Medicare Advantage
Part D- Prescription Drug Coverage
Medicare Part A and Part B are known as Original Medicare.
Part A- usually provided at no cost.
Part B standard premium is about $185/mo. Those with higher income pay more for Part B (Medical) and Part D (Prescription Drug) coverage.
With Original Medicare as your primary insurance, you can go to any Medicare-enrolled doctor, other health care provider, hospital, or other facility that accepts Medicare patients anywhere in the U.S. In most cases, no referrals are needed to access specialists.
To find and compare providers, hospitals, and facilities in your area, visit

A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) insurance policy and a (Part D) Prescription Drug Plan are generally used with Original Medicare. Dental and vision plans may also be purchased separately.
If you're turning 65 soon and haven't started Social Security Income, please call the Social Security Administration (SSA) at
1-800-772-1213 to enroll in Medicare or enroll in Medicare online at:
https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/medicare/
Social Security Income recipients are auto-enrolled and will receive a Medicare card about 90-days prior to your 65th birthday month.
Those with only Part A that want to add Part B please CLICK HERE
or call SSA - 1-800-772-1213.
With Medicare Advantage (Part C) Plans you get your Medicare benefits from the Medicare health plan you choose.
Plans may bundle hospital, medical and prescription drug coverage in one plan and may include extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing and more.
Benefits vary by plan.
Medicare Advantage plans may offer a low or no monthly plan premium above your Medicare Part B premium.
For each health care service, you pay a fixed cost (copay) or a percentage of the cost up to the plan's limit for covered hospital and medical expenses.
Most plans include a network of providers to use to get care and may allow you to self-refer to a in-network specialist. Some plans offer coverage from out-of-network providers at additional cost-sharing.
Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage (MAPD), some plans do not (MA only) may be used by Veterans with VA drug benefits.

These "supplemental" plans provide secondary coverage to Original Medicare.
Plans may pay all or part of the Medicare hospital deductible, copays and the 20% of medical expenses remaining after Medicare pays its part.
Since these plans help plug the financial "gaps" in Original Medicare Parts A & B, they are also known as Medigap plans.
Medigap Plan G and Plan N are popular and provide good financial protection. Other letter plans are available.
Original Medicare allows the use of any provider who accepts Medicare patients. No networks, no referrals. Easy!
In addition to a Medicare Supplement, you'll need a (Part D) Prescription Drug Plan for pharmacy coverage.
